Conditions
of participation

Driving the Human / Skills e.V. will consider submitted materials only on the condition that the selected applicant irrevocably agrees that:

         ⋅ Their portrait/s, name/s, short bio/s, and submitted concepts may be published on the Driving the Human website and those of its partners: acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering, Forecast, the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, as provided in the online application form.

         ⋅ They hold the sole copyright to and/or have secured the consent of any other copyright owner on any given text, excerpt, or portfolio image submitted, in accordance with all applicable national and international regulations. They guarantee that the rights of no third parties would be violated in the (re-)publication of any submitted text or portfolio material. The applicant unconditionally and irrevocably declares their copyright responsibility and liability toward third parties for any and all possible disputes over copyright violations and fully indemnify Skills e.V. against all third party claims arising thereof.

In submitting your application in any form, you grant consent to and license Skills e.V. as the legal entity of Driving the Human to use your name, text, artwork, or design, and representations of your text, artwork, or design in any media related to Driving the Human, anywhere in the world, without compensation or credit, for artistic, promotional, and documentary purposes.

Applicants will be selected at the sole discretion of Driving the Human, which is jointly led by its four partners: acatech, Forecast, HfG, and ZKM. Applicants selected for participation in Driving the Human will be informed by email on or before May 28, 2021. Physical participation in the Driving the Human event for its entire duration, October 15–17, 2021 in Berlin, is obligatory. Should an applicant not be able to be physically present at the Driving the Human event for its entire duration for whatever reason, Driving the Human / Skills e.V. reserves the right to revoke their invitation, and to designate a runner-up instead.

Each applicant* may submit only one project.

*Collectives, groups, and any other practices consisting of more than one person may apply with one proposal. In case a group is admitted as one applicant, Driving the Human / Skills e.V. will not guarantee to grant travel costs to more than one person, and the overall budget for the intended project will not be higher than that for projects submitted by a single person.

The jury’s selection decision is final. Any recourse to courts of law is excluded.

Production Budget

Travel and accommodation for participants at the Driving the Human event in October 2021 in Berlin is granted by Driving the Human. If you apply as a duo or collective, Driving the Human will cover travel and accommodation for only one member.

For your participation at the Driving the Human event in Berlin in October 2021, you will receive an artist fee of 2,000 euros and a production budget of up to 2,000 euros. The production budget will be made available based on the project’s budgetary requirements.

If your proposal is subsequently chosen as one of the seven projects to be shown at the Munich presentation in December 2021 and developed as prototype and showcased at the Driving the Human event in December 2022 in Berlin, you will receive an artist fee of 15,000 euros and an appropriate production budget according to the practice and project needs. The production budget will be made available in installments based on the stages of the project’s development and its budgetary requirements. It is imperative that you submit a preliminary production and budget plan to convey the project’s scale and set milestones for its realization.

Should your proposal necessitate additional funds, Driving the Human / Skills e.V. will provide support in applying to further collaborations and/or funding. We encourage that you initiate additional fundraising and see it as an important part of structuring your creative work.

The particulars of the participation in the Driving the Human event in October 2021 in Berlin will be set forth in separate contracts.

                        Privacy

Driving the Human / Skills e.V. respects each person’s right to privacy. We do not sell or distribute personal information or samples of work for commercial purposes. Your application data will be treated confidentially. Only the Driving the Human / Skills e.V. team and few delegated associates of the partner institutions (acatech, Forecast, HfG, ZKM) have access to your application. If you are selected to participate in Driving the Human, your profile data and submitted material will be used as stated above.

Conditions for the use of submitted data and material: In particular, these may be retained in a database at Driving the Human / Skills e.V. and displayed on the website or related areas, for the purpose of improved communication between participants, experts, and visitors.

                        Governing law

This agreement is exclusively governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. In the event of any dispute arising out of or in connection with this agreement, the exclusive legal venue shall be solely the courts of Berlin, Germany.
